Inspired by the hearty flavours of Eastern European cuisine, the chefs at Transylvania Flavour eschew hunger pangs with an eclectic roster of Balkan-style dishes, including sarmale, cabbage rolls with house sauerkraut and a sour-cream drizzle ($12), and savoury pork schnitzel ($17.95). In the kitchen, the owner’s mother adds her own dashes of family flair to signature recipes, such as the knight’s platter for two, an eight-part panoply of ethnic edibles that channels the splendour of medieval feasts with yam-and-cheese pierogis, polenta croquettes, meatballs, and more ($48), to be gobbled alongside a gilded goblet of wine embossed with antidotes for dragon breath ($7–$10 per glass).

Along the textured yellow walls of Transylvania’s intimate dining room, black-and-white prints of historic monuments inspire a romantic nostalgia while diners devour desserts of homemade donuts ($7).
