A cozy picture of Tudor revivalist design, the lakeside Hart House Restaurant purveys creative menus full of exquisite lunch and brunch delicacies lauded for their casual elegance. Express lunches quell daily appetite rumblings with salads of marinated beets, goat cheese, and pistachio crumbs as well as battered-cod po boys on baguette bread and a daily chef’s special that makes the most of locally raised, law-abiding ingredients. For the Sunday express brunch, executive chef Kris Kabush brews a mushroom soup that wrings the most sumptuous flavour notes from roasted trumpet mushrooms since world-renowned trumpet player Allen Vizzutti famously stuffed his instrument with handpicked morels.
Dinner dates can sip glasses of white wine ($7+) while swooning over oysters gratin ($14). Main courses include the 7-ounce filet mignon ($28) and seafood selections such as grilled salmon served with fried artichoke ($25) and mussels and fries ($21). Diners can then complete the experience with a sweet meal-capper such as the caramelized lemon tart ($7) or molten Hart cake, which is periodically offered after eruptions of the restaurant’s kitchen volcano.
