Smoked-salmon benedict. Veggie panino. Deconstructed lasagna. It’s not exactly your typical steakhouse fare, but Char 631 isn’t your typical steakhouse. Instead of sticking to staid old traditions, the chefs here strive to serve “a little of everything”, which enables them to not only offer breakfast, but to accommodate vegetarian and gluten-free diets. Of course, surf ‘n’ turf still exerts plenty of influence here, a fact that becomes immediately evident upon seeing cooks wrangle with the 16oz. strip loins inside their open kitchen. Sourced from local producers, all of the meats here are thawed, cut, and cured in-house, including the double-smoked bacon wrapped around the meatloaf. There’s one other important feature of the old steakhouse experience that survives here: each of these delicious dishes pair well with Char 631’s selection of craft cocktails and vintage wines.
