Hosted by the Arthritis Research Foundation, Power of Movement fundraises for the foundation through yoga sessions held across the country. The event, which raised $10,000 during its inaugural fundraiser and now features 2,000 participants across Canada raising $1.6 million, began in 2005 when Dorna Chee found herself hospitalized after being diagnosed with lupus. As a yoga instructor, she turned to her breathing exercises to help manage pain and achieve mental calmness during her hospital stay. She experienced substantial benefits, and thought to share them with the world. She pitched an idea for a yoga-based event, with proceeds benefiting the Arthritis Research Foundation. Participants fundraise to support the foundation.and also take a Power of Movement yoga class, which vary by location.
